But there was a lot of mischief and playfulness in the way he created disturbances to the neighbors.
One day, Maradona got himself in the custody of police for drug pedaling by pledging his house. His father, who was always known for his principles and ethics, could not tolerate the shame brought in by his only son. He had a heart attack and was admitted in hospital. First time in his life Maradona saw his mother getting angry with him. This was a shock to Maradona because he had always thought that his mother will always support him and love him in spite of what he is and what he does. Maradona was shocked, the self pity and self disgust had led him to take up alcoholic drinks for a solace, but he was not consoled with his drinks alone. Meera Jasmine bags Sreevidya award

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 16 (IANS) Popular South Indian actress Meera Jasmine Thursday bagged the first Sreevidya award for the best actress in the Malayalam film industry.

K.B. Ganesh Kumar, chairman of the MLV Sreevidya Charitable Society, said that a jury comprising veteran Malayalam film director Siddiq chose Meera Jasmine for the award.

"She has been chosen for the first Sreevidya award for her role in 'Orae Kadal'. The award would be given on actress Sreevidya's second death anniversary, which falls this Sunday," said Kumar.

Sreevidya died on Oct 19, 2006, at the age of 53. She had acted in many South Indian films. However, it was in the Malayalam film industry that she made a huge impression.

"We have also decided to start a Cancer Foundation in Sreevidya's memory and would work in tandem with the regional cancer centre here by financially supporting women patients who cannot meet the treatment costs," said Kumar.

What's in a name?

Popular actor Dileep and director Deepu Karunakaran (whose debut directorial venture 'Winter' is yet to be released) had joined hands to make a film, which they had initially named 'Kallante Katha'.

Dileep was to play the role of a thief in this film, which reportedly was to be an entertainer. Later the makers decided to change the name, and the film was then rechristened 'Run Gopala Run'. Preliminary work on the film started soon after.

One fine morning after that, the media is confronted with the news that the film was going in for yet another name change, with 'Run Gopala Run' being replaced by 'Run, Run, Run'. Now, as if all this was not enough, there are reports that the Deepu Karunakaran-Dileep starrer is going to get a new name 'Dhoom Dhamaal Gopala'. And there are also reports that the Dileep camp is working on yet another title for the film - 'Crazy Rascals'.

All this seems totally confusing. Will someone tell Dileep that at this stage in his career when he hasn't had a hit in a long time, such confusion will do more harm than good?

'Love in Singapore' to be renamed

Love in Singapore, in which Mammootty plays the role of a junk dealer, will now be named as Love in Bangkok.

Scripted, produced and directed by the Rafi-Mecartin duo, makers of colourful hits like Punjabi House, Thenkaasipattanam, Pandipada etc, Love in Singapore will now have portions shot in Bangkok instead of Singapore as announced earlier. This is the reason for the change in the name.

Mumbai-based model Keerthi Kulhari will play the heroine while the cast will also include popular stars like Innocent, Nedumudi Venu, Rajan P. Dev, Salim Kumar, Suraaj Venjaramoodu, Bijukuttan, Sukumari etc.

Sanjeev Shankar will crank the camera for the film, which will feature songs penned by Rajeev Alunkal and Santhosh Varma, and set to tune by Suresh Peters, the favourite music director of the director duo. Shooting will commence in October, with the release slated for January next year.

Veruthe Oru Bharya Review

Veruthe Oru Bharya is one of those brilliant mainstream crowd pleasers that grabs you from the first frame to the last. It's a lively, smartly directed, hard-hitting endeavor that recounts its message-in-a-bottle in a different, although barely unique manner.

It all starts off at 5 in the morning, as on any other day, with Bindu (Gopika) striving to gain hold of her life's reigns that are steadfastly held by her husband Sugunan (Jayaram), since their marriage almost a decade back. Caught in a wedlock that had long lost any purpose, Bindu tries in vain to infuse some sense into an unsympathetic partner. Pestered by his boundless stipulations and fretfully concerned with a daughter (Niveda) trying to come to grips with adolescence and its upheavals, Bindu finally decides to give herself a much-needed break from the drudgery of housework and child care.

The film looks more like a celebration of marriage, honoring it in all possible ways. There are the newly weds basking in its ecstasy, and the older ones frantically conjuring new tricks to relive that bliss. The social critique is faintly peppered all over, without appearing obtrusive, except on a couple of occasions where short lectures on sanctity find their way out through moral guardian mouths.

Thematically, the film might not be feminist though it often suggests otherwise. The male-bashing, if you can call it that, is meditative at its worst. Fingers are pointed left and right and there is plenty of source material for introspection, irrespective of your sex. There are some real important and intriguing questions being probed here, and it's actually fun finding out the answers.

Sugunan holds our attention right there because we are fascinated by the frustration of this man who goes about playing a game without any opponents in sight. He could be one of those stereotyped sexists with a total disregard for anything vaguely feminine. I believe he isn't one of them however; he's simply an odd man brought up in an essentially patriarchal environment and continually fed on weird notions of authority. His wife is a perfect foil to his dictatorial outlook, in that she's as much submissive as she is resentful, thereby rendering him bewildered at times.

It's not everyday that you come across a film as this with a whole lot of sunny optimism pouring in from all corners. Even as there is a terrible breakdown midway through, you know for sure that things are bound to end up right. Perhaps there are a few instances in the film that really require a leap of faith and yet I found myself playing along. As much as I resent those sugared tales where the tumbled house of cards builds back on its own, I could take the film for what it is - light, cheery and amusing.

Veruthe Oru Bharya is a surprisingly strong showcase for its stars. Gopika is a revelation; there's an irrefutable magic about her, and in this most complex of her movie roles, it comes through with a unique poignancy. She fully inhabits the vulnerability of the downtrodden wife without ever overriding the central conflict. Jayaram is as endearing as well. He finally gets to play his age and even make fun of himself, and discarding the strange carelessness that had made his recent enterprises so unbearable, goes about his job with a precision that's marvelous. There's also Niveda, who comes up with a shearing performance as the daughter who's truly shattered by the tragedy that befalls her family.

Akku Akbar's film is a wildly entertaining and companionable one. And it's blessedly unpretentious. There aren't any gimmicks at play here; instead there are genuine delights that come by way of that tight script by Gireesh Kumar that succeeds on its own terms. There's little ambiguity as to where this story is headed and Shaji's visuals are indescribably forceful. Events are clear-cut, and proceed in a progressive succession.

Not often has the dynamics of familial discord been portrayed on screen with such palpable power. Faintly reminiscent of those feel-good yarns of the not-so-distant past, Veruthe Oru Bharya is thoroughly and thoughtfully entertaining to the hilt.

Kabadi Kabadi

Govindankutty's team had always been winning the Kabadi match held in commemoration of Rajashekharan, while Vijayan wanted to win it at least once, by hook or by crook.

In the meantime a retired Judge named Viswanathan comes to stay in their village. Viswanathan had identical twin daughters - Pooja and Sneha.

Vijayan and Govindankutty are drawn to these young girls, without ever knowing that there are two girls.
They think that they both are in love with one and the same girl and not two different girls.

Meanwhile both Vijayan and Govindankutty qualify for the job of Sub Inspector.

While Vijayan is posted in their own place, Govindankutty is posted at a distant town.
This creates problems.

Govindankutty is afraid that Vijayan would steal his girl away.
All this goes into the development of the plot of Kabadi Kabadi, in which Mukesh plays Vijayan and Kalabhavan Mani becomes Govindankutty.
